Chick Varnadore

ROCK HILL – Mr. Richard “Chick” G. Varnadore, 70, of 2068 Somerdale Rd., died Friday, July 06, 2012, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Memorial services will be 4:00 PM Thursday, at the Carolina's Cornerstone Church, with Rev. Steve Hardy officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Born in Rock Hill, Chick is the son of the late James David and Viola Elizabeth Black Varnadore.

Chick grew up and went to school in Rock Hill where he continued to live most of his adult life. Family was so important to Chick. He grew up in a large family and loved them and his children unconditionally. He will be greatly missed by all his relatives as well as a host of friends.

Chick was a skilled carpenter and worked in the construction industry for a number of years. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping build Carowinds from the ground up. He was instrumental in the erection of the Clock Tower which still stands. The crew broke ground in May of 1970 and Chick continued working at Carowinds after they opened in March of 1973 for several years. Later he worked at Home Depot for eleven years where he made many new friends and encountered a lot of old friends who came to shop. While working at Home Depot he earned the nickname “Mayor of Rock Hill” mainly because he was always so eager to touch the lives of those he came in contact with and make their day a little brighter.

He is survived by his Fiance', Pamela Medlock; two sons, Chris Varnadore and Scott Varnadore; two brothers, Roy Varnadore and Donnie Varnadore; and three grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two brothers, James Varnadore and Bobby Varnadore.

The family would like to express at this time a heartfelt thank you to his long time friend Steve Hardy of Carolinas Cornerstone Church.

Memorials may be made to Carolina's Cornerstone Church, 1790 Gardendale Road, Fort Mill, S.C., 29708
