Darlene Biddle Shoaf

Rock Hill – Mrs. Darlene Ann Shoaf, 76, entered into her peaceful rest in her Heavenly Home and escaped from her suffering following a lengthy series of illnesses on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Funeral services will be Noon Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Whitesell Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating. The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Rainsville Cemetery, Rainsville, Indiana.

Darlene was born to the late Lewis M. Biddle and Mildred I. Towns Biddle Hancock in Danville, Il on April 14, 1936.

She is survived by her husband, Curtiss L. Shoaf whom she married on May 18, 1958, in Odell, In.; two sons, John E. (Elaine) of Lancaster, SC and Jack J. (Bonnie) of Lafayette, In; two daughters, Victoria Wright of Rock Hill, SC and Cara LeeAnn Shoaf of the home; four half-sisters, Jean Borders, Sandy Gillispie, Louann Ridenour and Debbie Marks all of South Bend, In; a nephew, Brian Beason of In.; and a number of cousins including a special cousin, Pat Barberi of Huntsville, Al; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a half-brother, Paul Beason and a younger sister, Velma.

After moving to Rock Hill, SC in 1979 she became a member of the Second Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She was a nursery worker, Sunday School class teacher and a member of the WMU where she held various offices through the years. She was also a mainstay in the Vacation Bible School activities and always oversaw the decorating of the church at Christmas.

Her love for the church and its mission was evident by her opening her heart and her home to the many that had a special need for a family type relationship. She was always available and willing to assist and counsel many young children to learn about and be active in church events.
