Alice Blackwelder Smith Crocker

Fort Mill, SC – Alice Blackwelder Smith Crocker, 89, passed away on Monday. November 6, 2023, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Westerly Hills Baptist Church, 232 South Sutton Road in Fort Mill.  The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM.  The burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Fort Mill, Alice was the daughter of the late Bennett and Grace Blackwelder.  She worked as a practical nurse and secretary until her retirement at age 62 when she retired to take care of her mother.  Alice was a wonderful caretaker and was forever helping others.

Alice led a rich, full and long life.  She was a great disciple of Jesus Christ.  She had the privilege and opportunity of serving God in a number of ways.  She was involved in many activities with her church.   She taught Sunday school for many years and truly enjoyed teaching young children.  She was active with the Women of the Church, where she most enjoyed being the Chairman of the Fellowship Circle and Altar Guild.

She was extremely patriotic.  She loved her country, veterans, law enforcement and first responders.  In her later years, she learned to quilt and became involved with Old Glory Quilters where she quilted nearly three hundred quilts for veterans.

Surviving are her three children, Pamela Smith Lancaster (Todd) of Brunswick, Georgia, Joan Smith Totherow (Stephen) of Catawba, South Carolina and Martin Leslie Smith (Lisa) of Rock Hill, South Carolina.  She also has seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, David Blackwelder and Bill Blackwelder and her great-great granddaughter, Payton Whitmore.

Alice requested that in lieu of flowers, in her words, “Memorials would be so very good, especially to her church or any other charity which will help others.  Flowers are beautiful, but they, like us, fade and die.  Donations will be beneficial to others.”
