Ilona Hartman Obituary

Indian Land, SC - Mrs. Ilona Hartman, age 80, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday March 2, 2023, in her home.

Ilona was married to her beloved husband, Joseph, for 58 years and was the proud Mother of two sons, Michael and David. David married Michelle (Chichko) Hartman in 1993. From this marriage, Ilona become the proud Grandmother of three grandsons, Michael (25), Alexander (23) and Christopher (20).

Ilona was born in Hannover, Germany during WWII and traveled to South Africa with her family to open a Beauty/Hairdressing Salon in Pretoria, SA. At this family owned business she met her future husband, and love of her life Joseph, feel in love, and after a long two year wait finally was married to him. Shortly after getting married, Ilona and Joe, came to the United States and settled in Florida opening up several small businesses that they worked side by side in.

Several years later and after both sons (Michael and David) were born, they moved to New York City where Ilona went to work for United Airlines as a Ticket Agent and Concierge. She commuted to work, at various times to both NY airports, John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airport.

After many years working for the airlines and after Joe had retired from the Phone Company, they chose to move to Prescott, Arizona and built a beautiful house in the Mountains.

Once again, the urge to move came and they moved here to Sun City Carolina Lakes, Indian Land, SC in order to be closer to her sons, grandsons and extended family.

Ilona was truly a remarkable woman who gave so much of herself to all those she came into contact with, both friends, family and casual contacts. Her ability to sacrifice, provide, support, encourage, teach and love was a gift she provided to all those lucky enough to have known her.

Everyone who met Ilona knew she was full of love and life. She had many creative pursuits throughout her life including drawing, writing, painting, knitting, cooking, spirituality, and reading. She gave off so much positivity and energy, and will be greatly missed by so many people who were touched by her generosity.

Ilona is survived by her loving husband, Joseph, her children, Michael and David and her three grandchildren, Michael, Alexander and Christopher.
