John Denver Holland, 70, of Parris Rd in Rock Hill, died at his home Sunday, June 3, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Leonard and Oleen Godsmark Holland.
He is survived by his wife, Edeltraud “Trudy” Schuster Holland; two sons, Elmar Johann Holland (Harriett) and Jackson Randolph Holland, all of Rock Hill; brother, Walter Leonard “Bud” Holland, Jr.; sisters, Brenda Parris of Rock Hill, Alice Athey of Charlotte, NC and Judy Profit (Ronnie) of Mint Hill, NC; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and beloved nieces and nephews.
John proudly served his country for 12 years in the US Army and is a Bronze Star recipient of the Vietnam War with numerous other campaign medals along with the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He worked as an electrician for Duke Energy, owned his own logging business and was an independent pay phone contractor. Educated in Rock Hill schools, he was a wood craftsman and fabricator, had many unusual collections and a jazz music lover. He was an Elder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, York Ward.
The family will receive friends from 3 – 4:00 PM, Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, York Ward, 11305 Alexander Love Highway, York, SC with a Memorial Service following at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post 2889 Honor Guard, PO Box 3616, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Jay Ackerman, RN and the staff of PruittHealth Hospice for the loving and supportive care provided to them. Your overwhelming compassion will never be forgotten.
