Mark Douglas Cooney

Mark Douglas Cooney, 65, of York, SC, suddenly passed away on October 2, 2021, doing what he loved to do, riding his motorcycle.

He was born February 20, 1955, in Texas. Son to the late Joseph and Margaret Cooney.

Mark was outgoing by nature, and he never met a stranger. He absolutely loved spending time with his family. He was always doing something crazy to make you laugh. He was always trying to help people around him and that got him into trouble at times.

Mark in the past couple of years picked up a love for riding his motorcycle and that gave him a lot of joy after the passing of his beloved wife Kathy Cooney in 2017.

Most important to him was his kids and grandkids. He will forever be remembered as a loving, goofy and devoted husband, dad, granddad, friend, and brother.

He leaves a ton of cherished memories by his survivors his children Lori Akers (Paul), Tiffany Cooney Steele (Marques), Mark A. Cooney (Morgan). Grandkids Mary Morton, Keirra Steele, Cameron Steele, Macie Morton, Mattie Steele, Bryson Steele, Benton Akers and Aulbree Cooney. Brothers, Mike, James, Buddy and Jim. Sisters Linda, Marlene, Sharon, Gloria, and Sheila.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Kathy Cooney and his grandson William (Will) Morton.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 4pm – 5:30pm at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home. Friends and Family time to be held at Marks residence following the visitation.
