Robert Jones IV Obituary

Robert “Bob” Jones IV passed away on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022, at his home in York, SC. He was 75 years old. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.

Bob was born on September 24th, 1946, in Butler County, PA, to his loving parents, Robert and Gladys “Ducie” Jones III. His father worked in the Financial Service Industry and his mother was a homemaker; both were World War II veterans. He was the eldest of four brothers, Ralph, David, and Alan.

Bob grew up in North Miami Beach where he loved surfing, playing guitar in a band, driving muscle cars, fishing, scuba diving, and boating. He was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Public Administration and a Master of Business Administration.

His best friend, Harvey Cooper, introduced him to the love of his life, Carol (Salva) Jones. They were married in Carol’s hometown of Vero Beach, FL on November 30th, 1968. Their two sons, Rob and Larry were born in Boynton Beach, FL, and after moving the family to Pennsylvania, they welcomed their daughter Cyndi. Together, they raised their three children in Glen Mills, PA. Bob took tremendous pride in supporting his children's education and passions of skiing, equestrian sports and restoring classic cars with his sons, including a Gran Torino, Mustang, and Corvette.

Inspired by his father’s work at a bank installing one of the first major computer systems at the time, Bob dedicated himself to a career in technology and computer programming. Bob was intelligent, hardworking, and reliable and built a successful career as an IT leader, including co-founding start-up companies Custom Programming Group and American Telephony Inc.

After retiring from the Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Bob and Carol moved to the Charlotte area to be near their children and grandchildren. Bob dedicated himself to building a beautiful horse farm, attending Wake Forest football games, gardening, cooking large homemade meals, and caring for his loving wife. Bob was a proud grandfather who loved and supported his granddaughters, from their academic accomplishments to rooting them on during alpine ski racing, soccer, and cheerleading, and researching the perfect gift. He traveled with his family to Hawaii, Oregon, Aruba and Snowshoe, WV, and enjoyed sharing residence between his South Carolina farm and Vero Beach, FL. Recently he enjoyed working with new friends, learning to raise cattle and making plans for his next adventures.

Bob held enormous love for his wife and children. His Faith, knowledge, guidance, support, and friendship were the foundation of his family. He was generous and welcomed all his friends into his life with open arms. Family and friends knew him to have an engaging personality, strong convictions, and many entertaining stories.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Carol Jones, son Robert Jones V and his wife Krissy, son Lawrence Jones and his partner Tara, daughter Cynthia Foy and her husband Barry, and brother David Jones and his wife Kate. He will be missed by his three grandchildren, Abby, Sarah, and Ella, and his cats, Merlin and Butter. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Gladys Jones III, and brothers Ralph and Alan.

A memorial service and celebration of life in honor of Bob will be held on Saturday, June 11th, 2022 at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home, 700 Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
