Vicki Fitzgerald Obituary

Vicki Marie Fitzgerald of Fort Mill, SC flew to Heaven to be with her Mom and the Lord on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.  She went peacefully surrounded by her loving family.  Born on December 29, 1963 in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of Hershel and Peggy Fitzgerald.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Atkins Fitzgerald.

Just like her mother, Vicki was a fighter.  Throughout her life Vicki overcame many different challenges and obstacles.  From serious knee surgery in her teens to serious health issues in recent years, Vicki always fought hard and never gave up.   She always attracted a wide variety of unique individuals and she never met a stranger. She never judged, always accepted, and would listen intently to whatever they had to say.  She absolutely loved the differences and faults with people and would find the positive in everyone regardless of who they were or what they did.  She loved people and as it turns out listening and counseling was her real passion.

Vicki received a Masters of Social Work from Winthrop University and later became a social worker for Hospice.  Providing end of life guidance and talking through the process with people was her calling.  She had an amazing way of providing comfort, using her faith, her courage, her compassion, and her honesty to make someone feel at peace about what was to come.  In the end, it was that passion that allowed her to remain strong even through the last few months in the hospital enduring so many unimaginable challenges.

A long standing and well-loved member of the recovery community, she used her past experiences and struggles to help guide those that needed help.  This was her second family, and she loved everyone so much.  She will be so incredibly missed.

A talented artist, she loved painting and taking pictures of nature and the various animals and sights from the family home at Harbor Island.  She loved being at the beach, laughing and spending time with friends and family.  These are the times that will be missed the most.

An incredible person, she leaves behind a legacy of love, courage, and strength.  Carrying on her legacy is her sister Lisa Honeycutt of Fort Mill, SC, brother, Max Fitzgerald and wife Tatum of Raleigh, NC; nephew Zachary Honeycutt, nieces Regan Honeycutt, Ridgely Fitzgerald, and Ellery Fitzgerald, and her loving Aussie-doodle Tucker.

A Celebration of life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill, SC 29708.  Visitation with the family will immediately follow.
